Kahunyo is a classic yet unique coffee from the heart of Kenya's Murang'a region, located near the crystalline Ndakaini Dam, which supplies water to the capital, Nairobi. It is here, in the fertile, red volcanic soils, that the intensely flavored coffees ripen.
The beans come from approximately 640 smallholder farmers affiliated with the Thikagiki Farmers Cooperative Society. Each grows Arabica bushes on a small plot of land—usually half a hectare to one hectare—cultivating the classic Kenyan SL28 and SL34 varieties, prized for their depth of aroma and pronounced acidity.
After harvest, the fruit is carefully selected, then fermented for 16–18 hours, rinsed in pure spring water, and dried on raised tables for approximately a week. The result is a coffee with an exceptionally clean, juicy, and harmonious profile, combining notes of citrus fruit, blackcurrant, and a delicate caramel sweetness.
